The Process–Names

I’m sitting here, plotting project three and figuring out my characters. I decided on a name for my Heroine, my annoying pain-in-the-ass antagonist guy, but still haven’t come up with a name for my Hero. So I thought it might be time to go name searching online soon, and a little shiver of excitement just ran up my spine. *Squeal!*

I love names! LOVE THEM!!! Naming my two babies was super fun for me. I had lists, spent hours looking in books and online, and talking to my husband about options. I’m sure I annoyed him to no end. And even though we knew we were having girls, I still had a list of boys names — and coordinating middle names! — just in case…yeah right! I knew I only needed girl names, but how could I resist an opportunity to pick out boy names?!

Seriously, I love writing, I love plotting out a new story, creating characters and settings, etc. And I love it when everything starts to come together into an awesome finished product. But I have to admit, I get seriously excited when a character needs a little help picking their name, because then it means I get to go name searching again. Ah, bliss… And, I don’t have to ask anyone’s opinion on the name either! Naming my characters isn’t like naming a child — no one gets to veto my choice! Woot!

So, I’m off to find some possible names for my hero. There’s that tingle again! Tell me, do you get excited picking out names for your characters, too? Or maybe I’m just weird. 🙂

Oh Boy…

…I just signed up for NaNoWriMo. God help me. Write 50,000 words in 30 days? Sure, no problem! *choke, cough, sputter* I can do that, right? RIGHT?!

Yikes.

On to Project Three

Alright, project one, the single title contemporary is with an agent in partial form. <Fingers crossed Peeps!!> Project two, the contemporary novella is with a beta reader again for a final read through, then it’s off to some e-pubs. I finished the query for it and I’m trying to get the synopsis squared away now. It will be sent out before the end of the month and then I’ll be holding my breath to hear back about it until probably the end of the year or even into Jan. Yikes! That wait is going to suck. *sigh*

So that means it’s on to project three and I’m still undecided about what it should be. Should I dive into my next single title contemporary? Should I try another novella? Or how about something right in between, say a 50,000 word NaNoWriMo project? Don’t know what NaNo is? Check here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/  Write 50,000 words in 30 days. Easy peasy, right? I’m a little terrified of NaNo. Choices, choices…

I have a few ideas rattling around for different things, but I need to focus on them and then pick one. Not sure if there’s one idea standing out more than the others right now or not. But at least there are a few ideas. I definitely need to spend a little time fleshing out the ideas more in depth, so that’s my next immediate goal (after finishing my novella synopsis and submitting).

So what do you think? What should I focus on next? What’s your next project?

Houston, We Have Liftoff!

Well, it’s been a crazy busy week. I won’t bother with a recap since all of that stuff was in my last post. So I’ll just get to the good stuff…

I just received an email from an agent requesting a partial!! Whoo to the Hoo! I know this is just a first step in a series of many, but it’s wonderful news.

This validates two things for me. One, my story concept isn’t total crap. This agent thinks it sounds promising. That means other agents will think so too. So, even it this one doesn’t end up being The One, I am confident that there will be others who will be interested in what I have to offer. Two, my query letter isn’t total crap. It conveyed my concept in a way that made my novel enticing enough to request the partial.

By my score sheet, this is a huge success and definitely a step in the right direction on my way to becoming published! Happy Friday!
