Rockin’ *Write* Along

Haha, I amuse myself. Must be because my brain is slowly turning to mush. No really…squishy gray matter is about to drip out of my orifices like disgusting zombie boogers. Ewww… Moving on.

However, I’m rocking right along on my NaNo novel! It’s about half way through day four and I just crested 15K!!!! Whoo to the hoo! Now, I feel like I should clarify that number for all you doubters out there. I’ve written 4-5K each day and it’s been totally doable. And no, I’m not sitting here for only one hour at my computer and just spewing gobs of nonsense to get that word count either. These are good words. USABLE words!! Not all of them will be used of course. In fact, there are already some with a nice black line through them so that I know to cut them out later, but those are few and far between.

For the majority of these 15K, I’m pretty happy. I know there will be lots of time spent later editing, but there always is. This project will be no different in that way from any other book ever written. But, I’ve been putting in the time to get these words. I write while the kids are at school, or watching the occasion show (as is the case right now. Thanks Word World on PBS!!), and in the evenings

Day 1 is Done. Whew.

Day one of NaNoWriMo is coming to a close. I had a more successful day than I thought I would. I managed an outstanding (in my opinion) 5057 words! I was aiming for 2000-2500 so this extra today gives me a little buffer which I’m sure I’ll need another day. I have to say achieving that 5K was easier than I anticipated it would be, but I’m sure that’s just part of the initial high of starting something new. Words just seemed to be flowing today. I’m sure I’ll have days where reaching 500 will be challenge and then hopefully these big days will make up for the little ones.

I don’t think I’m starting to ramble, so that must mean it’s time for me to hit the sack. It’s time to crawl under the nice cozy covers and read someone else’s book for a little while. Tomorrow is a new day and a new chance to get another 2K counted. That would be sweet.

So how did you do today? And I’m not just talking to my fellow crazy wrimos. All of you out there working on your next great literary masterpiece. How was your day? Did you meet your goals? Did you surpass them? Did you fall a little short but still move forward? I hope you all did well.

Alrighty, I’m fading fast. Night peeps. See you tomorrow. Wish me a successful day two and a here’s to a successful day to you in your writing adventure. Cheers!

Let’s Go NaNo! Let’s Go!!

Every time I think of NaNo, I hear a cheer in my head thanks to my good friend and unofficial (but appreciated!) NaNo cheerleader, Shoshanna.

It’s officially the first day of NaNoWriMo! I’m excited, nervous, and feeling inspired to get started on my new novel—a contemporary romance. I’m aiming for 2000-2500 words per day because I know I have a five day vacation in the middle of the month which will probably make getting my word count challenging on those days. But I’ll do the best I can. I’ll try to blog about it as often as I can. No tell how often that will be!

Okay, enough chitchat. I gotta go write some words! To any fellow wrimos out there, good luck and happy November!

Trick or Treat… Treat!

This is not at all writing related, but it’s so funny, especially if you have a hubby with an Xbox. This is my treat to you this Halloween weekend! Enjoy!!

NaNoWriMo Countdown!

Less than a week until NaNoWriMo 2010 kicks off! Woot!! If you don’t know what that it, it’s all about writing a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. Fun, right? Let’s hope. Now that Nov. 1st is drawing near, I see more and more pop up around the internet about NaNo. The excitement is building!

This will be my first NaNo. I’ll let you know Nov 30 if it will be my last NaNo! LOL. I’ve decided to write another contemporary romance. I’m aiming for the 50K, but I have no idea how long it will end up being. I’ve jotted down a twelve page outline with scenes, snippets of dialogue, and a comprehensive look at what will happen from page one to the end. Not every little detail is planned, but the main beats of the story are there. The main motivations of the characters are there, and I’m adding in more and more as I learn more about my characters. In fact, just writing this I thought of another little tidbit that needs to be added in about one of the characters…Okay, done. 😉 I’m hoping that my twelve pages will take me well over the 50K and maybe even toward a longer, single title length again, but we’ll have to see. I’m sure as I go, I’ll need to add in a scene here or there that my characters have decided on. But at least I’m going into NaNo with some really good ground work and a guideline to refer to when I start to feel lost or overwhelmed.

So in the last little bit of time remaining, I’m going to round out my characters a little more, pin-point their individual traits, looks, etc, and do a little research about the location of my story. I should be good to go by next Monday! (I won’t be staying up late on Oct 31 to start writing at midnight. I have kids that still need a functional mum available on Monday morning.)

How is your NaNo prep coming along? Have you decided on your book? Your title? Your characters? Are you still tangled in a web of indecision? Still researching? Tick tock, tick tock, Nov 1 is drawing near…
