P is for Prepper

Oh, I did it. I said the P word — PREPPER. So what is a prepper? There are varying degrees of prepping, but basically it’s just someone who plans for the future. They aren’t all people who think the world as they know it is going to end, although there is a huge movement of these people. Some go so far as to stockpile food, weapons, water and even build a bunker. Others are people, like me, who simply have a plan so that if there is an emergency of any kind — earthquake, flood, hurricane, or power outage — that I can take care of my family and keep us safe. To me, this simply means have a couple of weeks of food on hand, some extra water, batteries, generator with fuel, and any other things I think might come in handy. So that’s it. That’s a prepper.

Are you a prepper in any way? Do you have a plan for your family if the power goes out or if a storm rolls in? Feel free to share it in the comments!

My first prepper romance with Decadent Publishing is here! Here’s the blurb for ESCAPE TO MY ARMS:

Escape to my Arms is an upcoming novella with Decadent Publishings new Prepper Romance line. I’m super excited to be a part of this great new line from Decadent. Here’s the blurb for Escape to my Arms:

Sara’s been preparing for this moment her whole life—she just never believed it would actually happen. With her bug-out bag and emergency food already in her truck, her only goal is to get to her family’s hidden bunker and wait out the pandemic that’s hit every major cruise ship port in the US. But her plan quickly falls apart. She’s out of gas, her route to the bunker is now a two-lane parking lot with no alternative in sight and her only weapon is a pocketknife. For an experienced prepper, she’s making every rookie mistake.

Dane believes he’s safe in his cabin, off the beaten path and in the woods with his own source for water, electricity and an endless supply of food to hunt. After finding Sara stranded and alone, he’s suddenly not only providing for and protecting himself, but also the girl who wandered out of the woods and into his life. When looters come looking to take what he has, Sara and Dane’s only option is to make a run for their last hope—the bunker.

Can Sara and Dane find safety in each other’s arms and the strength to survive long enough to escape to the hidden bunker and their future together?

No I’m not much of a prepper. I have the standard supplies if the lights go out, candles and kerosene lanterns, but nothing to that extreme of extra food and water. We did however come up with a plan after watching “The Day after Tomorrow.” we are to meet at the Alamo in San Antonio. we’ll be coming from different directions but we figured we’d survive the ice/snow age if it should ever happen. This was my son’s idea at the time and its been stuck in my head ever since.

Sounds like you have a good start already, Eileen. With a little extra food and water stored, you’d be able to survive for a lot longer duration of time if needed. Also, if you’ve already planned a meeting place, that’s great! But you really should consider putting a Bug Out bag in the back of your vehicles with essentials you might need along the way to your meeting place. You can buy a pre-made bug out bag online, or make your own by filling a backpack with things you might need in a survival or evacuation situation. We have one in every vehicle with enough supplies in each bag to keep 2 adults and 2 children alive and well for 3 days. Some of the things in my bug out bags are: water packets, filtering water bottles, energy bars, first aid supplies, pocketknives, hunting knife, personal hygiene items, candles, waterproof matches, flashlights, tube tent, rain ponchos, space blankets, compass, solar powered radio, instant hand/body warmers, and so many other things I can’t think of right now. But I know there’s more! It took me a couple of months to fully pack each bag. I started with a pre-made bag that I bought online, then I stocked it with a few of my own extras that I thought we needed. Overall, I’m confident that the bags will help us if we ever need them. Hopefully we won’t!
