New Year and Trying New Things

So 2011 is a couple weeks in. I have a bunch of writing goals that I’ve set for myself and I’m hoping to accomplish at least a couple of them if not all of them. Easier said than done, right? To help myself along, I’ve decided to make some plans.

The first is editing some of the mss that I already have. Nothing too major, but a few tweaks here and there that I think will make the stories stronger.

Secondly, I started an online workshop hosted by Carina Press Editor Angela James. It’s all about self-editing. Some of it is basic info, some more advanced. I feel like I have sound writing skills as it is, but I can always learn more. And there’s no telling what I *don’t know* since I wouldn’t know I don’t know it until someone tells me I don’t. Confused? Me too. The workshop only started a few days ago and already I’ve learned a few little tricks that I didn’t know existed. Did you know there’s a ‘whole word only’ option in find and replace on word? I didn’t, but I do now! That little tidbit is going to be very helpful from now on. I’m excited to see what else I’ll learn in the next three weeks. Whatever it is, I’m sure it will make my writing stronger and hopefully it will push my mss from being looked at to being offered contracts. *Fingers crossed*

I’ve also decided that I’m going to find a way to get to the RWA national conference in NYC this summer. The location is just too convenient to pass up. My only problem is childcare for my two kids, but I’m determined to figure out something. I know I’ll learn so much attending the workshops! And it will be a ton of fun to be surrounded by a conference full of writers and industry professionals. Which leads me to my last plan.

I want to write another single title in time for the conference! Time to get developing some story ideas…

Is there anything new you plan to do in 2011?

HI Heather, I think most of our chapter is going to RWA so it will be the best conference ever! Love your resolutions and you need to write an article on your online workshop for the newsletter – you are so productive already and an inspiration@

Hey Shoshanna and Jennifer! RWA national is going to be so much fun with all of us there! I hadn’t thought about doing an article, but I’ll see if I can put something together for you. *I make no promises…*

Not going to RWA. Don’t need the expense. I don’t think most are going but there will be some. Hope your plans work out.

Janet, you probably know everything they teach in those workshops anyways, but if you want to come just for fun, it’d be nice to see you there!
